Email Delivery Issues

Dear Chicago Freecycle(TM) Members,

This message is being sent to all Freecycle(TM) Users. We apologize for the inconvenience as we are having intermittent system problems with some email deliveries. We have received notices from some of our members that the system has been changing their email delivery status from Daily Digest to No Emails.

Our programmers have been looking into this issue and have found that when the site tries to send a message/email to a member and the members email provider “bounces” that message back to the site, the site will then try 2 more times to send that message through. If the email provider bounces it back those 2 more times, the site marks the members status as “bouncing” and changes the members email delivery setting to No Emails. This means that the member will no longer receive the posts on the site to their inbox.

The programmers are digging further into this as many of the members who have had this happen to them have stated that they were receiving emails from other sites without an issue, so we are not sure why the email providers are unable to accept the Freecycle emails. In the meantime, we wanted to make you aware of this issue.

If you have not received emails from the group in some time, please log into your group membership and check your email delivery settings to see if you have been moved to No Emails.

To do this, log into the website at: http://my.freecycle.org/

Click on the green My Groups tab. Scroll to the Chicago group and check your “Email preference” settings. If they are not set to the one you want, click the green button that says “Change Settings” and there you can select the setting that you want.

You can also read all of the posts on the group as well after you log in.
