Possible bogus spammer

***PLEASE READ THIS!!!*** You *WILL* most likely get a spammer response to your WANTED ad claiming to just have given away the item you are looking for, but they know where you can go to a similar type of site to request the item and graciously provide a link to the site. The site is bogus, has nothing to do with Freecycle and may or may not be a malicious site. At minimum, it's spam. So far this seems to be limited to Yahoo freecycle groups and not groups like ours that are on Freecycle.org. However, this person may slip into our group too.

"Why can't you just ban this person?"

The problem is, the email address they are using to send the mail is not registered as a member. They joined the group under false pretenses and are using a different email address to send these garbage emails. At this point we're not sure which of our 4,000+ members are doing this, so we're not sure who to ban.

This is a problem with other Freecycle Groups and the higher-ups are aware of it and are working on a solution. In the meantime, all we can do is tell you:

1. Don't reply to the spam, telling them to stop. It'll do no good.

2. Don't follow the link in the email.

3.As always, we would like to know of any personal inappropriate emails from other freecyclers

4. Add the sender to your junk emailer list.

We would also like to remind members to please combine all of your items into one single post please. When you make a single post for every item we all get tons of email. Thank you all for freecycling!
