BurlingtonVTFreecycle Annual Guidelines Reminder

Hello, and thank you for being a member of the Burlington Vermont Freecycle Group.

Our guidelines are reviewed at least annually but have remained largely the same since our inception in 2004. With more than 5500 members, it’s worth a reminder of some of our basic tenets.

The underlying rule of all Freecycle groups is that any items posted must be free. With a mission to keep items from our landfills, we require items be non-biodegradable and that which would otherwise be disposed of in a landfill. Food, plants, animal fur, pet food...these can all be reused, just not through our group as these items are biodegradable and can be composted.

The rehoming of animals is not permitted in our group. Please call your local humane society to ensure your pet goes to a responsible home.

When items that violate the guidelines are posted, we make every effort to remove them promptly. Despite their delivery in your inbox, the post is deleted from Freecycle and the person who posted is notified and sometimes moderated.

You’ll find all this and so much more in the exciting guidelines document! Please take a moment to review it if you haven’t ever or if it’s been a while. It's a Google Doc that can be bookmarked or printed. It can be found here:
