Lismore Freecycle move update
Now that the transition from Yahoo Groups to myfreecycle has occurred, I thought I would just drop you a quick email update about the Lismore freecycle group to reassure those of you who have concerns about the move.
Firstly, some people expressed concerns about other people who are not in the Northern Rivers area taking over the moderation of the Lismore group. My name is Simon. I am the lead moderator for the group. I am a resident of Lismore (I live near the Lismore Base Hospital) and I have been a moderator for the Lismore group for the last couple of years.
Rest assured that the move to the myfreecycle is a positive move. For the last couple of years I have received numerous contacts from new members who had joined freecycle.org and needed help accessing the posts. I would have to explain to them that they also had to join Yahoo Groups to access posts, a task that proved to be too much for some of the less computer-literate members. Now, new members will only have to register with freecycle to gain access to the group.
The myfreecycle site also offers more useful and useable functionality for posting and replying as it was written specifically for the job. It also allows for instant publishing of posts (so no waiting for a moderator to log in and approve posts for publishing). It also offers stronger moderation of potential spam posts, something that Yahoo Groups lacked in.
I firmly believe that the move to myfreecycle has been a positive move for our group and I hope that you find it to be too.
If you have any concerns or questions about the group or the move, please feel free to contact me.
The best way to contact me is to log in to my.freecycle.org, click on the My Groups tab and then click on the "Contact the ModTeam" button for the Lismore Group.
