Safety and Etiquette
We've had some complaints across a few topics lately. This is just a reminder of the mission of Freecycle, how to stay safe and what's generally considered polite group behavior.
Freecycle and its groups aim to connect communities for coordinating item reuse. The promise of using My.Freecycle.org is that everything is free, legal and appropriate for all ages. This means that anyone trying to trade, buy or sell items won't be successful. Pending posts of such nature will bounce back, and reported posts will be removed. If you're trying to scrape together some cash, Craigslist might be a better place to look.
We have a rule about phone numbers and addresses for your safety. These pages can be viewed by anyone, members and non-members, so you don't want your personal info out there. Another member can contact you through the site, and you can coordinate gifting privately. Please note that we *do* permit non-profit organizations to post phone numbers and addresses to their public locations. They will identify as an organization in the post itself, and from there anyone could find their info anyway.
So with these two concepts in mind, you might want to think of how your messages will go over with members of such a group. Imagine a pleasant swap-meet atmosphere where people are finding homes for their old stuff. Pandering and loitering will probably only offend people, and you'll get no results. (As an example, our OFFERs Twitter has 457 followers, but our WANTEDs Twitter only has 29.) Keep in mind though that Missoula is a great place, and you can probably find direction from the libraries and the Chamber of Commerce.
On a side note, we (all members) now own MissoulaFreecycle.org and the mods are working on a comprehensive info site to be hosted there. Thank you for continuing to foster Missoula's sustainable lifestyle.
